The design of the open space forms a clear contrast to the geometric cubatures of the buildings. The quiet courtyards are designed with natural grasses, shrubs and woody structures. As a further design element, the topography is taken up, which is reflected in the form of dynamic hills as well as paths and recreational areas. Play areas, movement spaces and recreational areas are integrated into this landscape design, which is defined by free, organic forms. This gives each courtyard its own identity.

Regarding the plantings, the aim is to achieve the most attractive variety of colours and structures possible. This includes foliage, foliage color, flowering aspect and growth forms of the woody plants, perennials and grasses.

With the selected solitary trees (e.g. maple, rock pear), attention was paid to generate beautiful colors during autumn. With the ornamental cherry a special flowering aspect is achieved during spring time. Through the planned combination of grasses in summer, autumn and winter, a diverse structure and a varying composition of colors thoughout the seasons is conveyed.
