The green areas of the campus park are divided into intensive park areas and extensive green areas. While the extensive areas form the core of the balancing areas, the intensively designed area offers a high quality of stay for the students. A central boulevard connects Wellensiekplatz with Fachhochschulplatz. The width of the boulevard varies between six and twelve meters. The design thus plays with the optical foreshortening in the perception of perspective. The widening in the direction of travel counteracts the shortening and makes the boulevard appear to be the same width. In the opposite direction, this optical foreshortening is greatly exaggerated and has a tapering effect. The surrounding park area is gently topographed and forms the lawns of the Bielefeld campus with solitary trees.
