Our design approach for the Anger Erfurt was not only to set the scene for the urban space with its historic facades and to create a high quality of stay, but also to enable a conflict-free coexistence of pedestrians, cyclists and the tram.
It was necessary to plan a surface that would hold the long, narrow and curved space together via a consistent design principle. The 30,000 sqm pedestrian zone (1st and 2nd construction phase) was modernized with a granite surface adapted to the materiality of the facades, whose timeless surface picks up the curve of the Angers by means of a wedge-shaped banding.
