ParkStadt Bad Godesberg
Bad Godesberg's inner city has been undergoing a profound transformation process since the 1950s, which is reflected in its urban form, use and society. Today, the city centre, as well as the Kurpark, presents itself as a mix of the most diverse architectural styles and guiding principles: very heterogeneous, partly insensitive, but also surprising and memorable. The BG master plan now offers the opportunity to create a deliberate and unique collage with a strong identity, diverse uses and lively public spaces from the often random-looking set pieces of the urban-territorial patchwork: the ParkStadt Bad Godesberg.
Blue-green and networked
A new connection between the Kurpark and Godesberg through a bridge is being created. The mountain is intended as a natural experience space. The spa park is interpreted as an urban city park with versatile community and exercise areas for all generations as well as its existing cultural offerings.
In interaction with the nearby Redoute Park, the needs for a quiet recreational park and a lively urban park can be met in equal measure
Climate-sensitive city
To meet climate change, the city centre needs an adaptation strategy that provides climate protection and climate adaptation at different levels. Smaller green spaces are integrated into streetscapes and on rooftops. New squares are designed in a water-sensitive manner and decentralised surface unsealing and climate-sensitive tree and new planting are supplemented by a "green roof offensive". The spa park will also be activated as a "sponge park".
Strong axes
Our concept focuses on the network of public spaces (streets and squares) and envisages shaping the face of the city centre through comprehensive qualification and characterful interpretation of the streets as "strong axes". Each axis forms an independent profile with different characteristics.
The Theaterplatz and Platz am Fronhof on the enjoyment and culture axis primarily offer space for cultural focal points. The Michaelhof as cure and water axis offers a green-blue coined stay area.
The Koblenzer road as movement axis in the cure park gathers different leisure and sport offers for the free use for all generations. The grown structure of the redeveloped Koblenzer Straße in the city centre continues to serve as a basis for the shopping axis.
Plazas and courtyards
The theatre square is spatially as well as in the quality of stay newly structured by a graduated retention basin with three plant pedestals and in connection with the new pavilion square and water level strengthened in its representative impression. The front courtyard retains an open space in front of the Galeria, and a generous walkable platform with tree plantings serves to enclose the space.
Resilient mix of uses
The City needs to be "rediscovered" as a place to live and work, but also to produce. We propose to specifically strengthen the western, quieter part of the City Centre as an attractive downtown residential location, and to concentrate retail on Koblenzer Strasse and Alte Bahnhofstrasse. Around Villichgasse, a "factory quarter" enriches the inner city with an important use; as a place of city-compatible production and urban manufactures "Made in Bad Godesberg".
From transit space to public space
The long-term car-free inner city is supported by improved public transport services, the installation of shared mobility at strategic points and a large mobility hub. Through traffic in Moltkestrasse and Am Kurpark will be greatly calmed; only residents and bus/taxi and customers of the city centre will be allowed access. This will also make it possible to connect the two cycle paths from Bonn and the Rhine.
