The creation of a promenade ring around the old town center is one of Dresden's primary planning goals. The course of the former fortifications is to be brought back to life in the cityscape and define the outer edge of the old town.

At the same time, a green belt with a high quality of stay is to be created around the old town.

The western section of the promenade will have clear spatial edges formed by a generous granite frame and a surrounding row of plane trees. The former fortress moat is traced by slightly sunken, parterre-like meadow areas.

The former characteristic squares, which rhythmically structured the ring around Dresden, are once again clearly defined and form an urban framework.

These include Südlicher Postplatz and Dippoldiswalder Platz in the planning area. They will be designed as entrance squares to the western section of the promenade. In addition to a newly designed fountain on Südlicher Postplatz, a historic bowl fountain will be rebuilt on Dippoldiswalder Platz.
