Wilhelmstraße school sports facility, Rastatt-Ottersdorf

A sports facility for the nearby elementary school was created on an area previously used for agriculture in the Ottersdorf district of Rastatt; the concept was based on the needs of the school and the athletics club. Youth participation organized by the city provided a number of suggestions that were taken into account in the design of the integrated, publicly accessible football pitch.



A 100 m running track, high jump, long jump and shot put facilities, a small playing field with a synthetic surface and parking spaces for cars and bicycles had to be planned. An equipment shed was also designed and built by the club itself. Based on the wishes that emerged from the youth participation, it was decided to design the public football pitch as a multifunctional area with asphalt surfacing and a 6m high ball catch fence.



The pitch has soccer goals and streetball baskets and can therefore be used in a variety of ways. As the site is adjacent to agricultural land, a 2.5 m wide hedge of different species of spirea was planted. The trees used were taken from the development plan. The fruit nature trail leading past the site was also taken into account and continued.
