As part of the redesign of Göttingen's market square, our office was commissioned to plan a green façade for the parking garage. The multi-storey parking lot now has a unique vertical garden, the first project of its kind in Göttingen to give the market square a completely new design character.



The vertical garden is divided into three areas: Ground-bound greenery with climbers in the west, wall-bound greenery in the middle and in the east. The plant selection takes into account limited light conditions and includes ornamental perennials, grasses, ferns and small shrubs. The structure of the façade greening includes a substructure made of aluminum profiles, a frame with a collecting channel, vegetation-supporting fleece, mineral substrate and drip pipes for irrigation. Water is supplied from a cistern and only when required with drinking water. Automatic irrigation with a separate pump and control system ensures an efficient water supply. The safety of the building is guaranteed by static checks and the necessary ventilation of the parking garage is maintained.



The façade greening on Göttingen's market square was implemented with climate protection in mind. It helps to improve the air quality and the local microclimate. The green wall is so impressive that it automatically prompts people to engage with the issues of climate protection and greenery in the city. In addition, the vertical garden creates a pleasant environment and supports the ecological balance in our city.
