The Neue Annenfriedhof cemetery in Dresden, a 14-hectare natural cemetery park, is becoming increasingly important as a climate and recreational oasis in the densely built-up district of Löbtau. The demand for burial plots is decreasing.

As part of the ExWoSt research project Green Urban Labs II, our office conceived and designed the multi-layered participation process with experts, initiatives, neighbors and interested parties. It was about new ways of using the cemetery, park design, cooperation between the city and the church, activating uses, initiatives and city residents for a new district park on the cemetery grounds.

Variety of participation formats: World café, theme tables, working groups, walk exploration, expert guided tour, games activities, summer festival with cemetery café, surveys, planting activities, lectures and discussions, temporary art actions land art with TU Dresden landscape architecture, nature experience and environmental research, child and youth participation, networking of peer groups, activation of new collaborations
