The City of Vienna commissioned us with a sub-project of LIFE DICCA. We prepared the feasibility study Ulm - Friedrichsau.

OBJECTIVE

To examine the applicability of the approaches developed in Vienna for the Danube Island area to adapt to the changing climatic conditions in Ulm.

LIFE DICCA

The EU project LIFE DICCA aims to counteract the negative effects of climate change with targeted measures. The abbreviation "DICCA" stands for "Danube Island Climate Change Adaptation", i.e. the adaptation of the Danube Island in Vienna to climate change. The aim was to develop a strategy that could be transferred to other European cities to protect inner-city ecosystems from the negative effects of climate change.

MAIN OBJECTIVES AND IMPORTANCE

After studying the basics and establishing our own fundamentals, five main objectives were identified and prioritized for the Friedrichsau project area:

1. climate change adaptation (30%)

2. climate protection / climate change mitigation (10%)

3. ecology and biodiversity (20%)

4. improvements for users (30%)

5. resource requirements and optimization (10%)

CATALOGUE OF MEASURES

1. revitalization of structurally rich bays on the banks of the Danube

2. revitalization of the pond biotopes

3. creation of a new pond biotope

4. conversion of asphalt surfaces into gravel lawns

5. close maintenance and mowing management

6. use of (native) species suitable for climate change

7. conversion of the lighting

8. programming of an app

9. creation of a phenological garden
