2024 saw the start of the open space planning project "SCHLOSSGARTEN STADTHAGEN Renaissance_Recreation_Resilienz - vom herrschaftlichen Residenzgarten

to a living, environmentally friendly and climate-resilient cultural heritage for all".

Stadthagen Palace Gardens can look back on almost 500 years of history; from a princely Renaissance palace garden, it became a bourgeois town garden in 1919, which has since been continuously developed with its historic tree population and water system in line with current requirements. In recent years, the pleasure house on the pond in the historic palace garden has been extensively renovated in keeping with its listed status. Now the garden, which has also been severely damaged by climate change, is also to be adapted to contemporary and future use in line with its listed status, without neglecting its history. To this end, a maintenance and development concept was drawn up and politically approved in 2021. The results of this concept are to be implemented over the next few years with the involvement of the public.

The project is funded by the federal program for the "Adaptation of urban areas to climate change". The aim is to develop conceptual and investment projects with high effectiveness for climate protection (CO2 reduction) and climate adaptation, with high technical quality, with above-average investment volume or with high innovation potential.
