In order to do justice to the scenic beauty and nature conservation significance of Grafenwerth Island and to ensure harmony between design, use and unspoilt landscape, the measures to modernise the open spaces were carried out very carefully and selectively. Large parts of the island retained their functional and design qualities. The plans primarily covered the northern and western parts of the island. The southern area as well as the eastern shore area remained untouched.

A circular path was created at the northern tip as well as several play areas in the vicinity of the restaurant. The existing boardwalk on the west shore with the boat docks was reduced in width and received new pavement and amenities.
New planting areas with robust plantings were installed along the path. Two new seating areas and another boules area complete the existing recreational amenities. A seating area with benches now forms the end point of the outdoor pool - Berck-sur-Mer bridge axis and the prelude to the renovated promenade to the north. At the ferry landing stage to Nonnenwerth Island, a new bicycle parking area has been created.

In the vicinity of the mineral fountain, existing asphalt paths, including the access road over the northern bridge, have been reduced in width and provided with a new surface. Complementing this, the paths were slightly altered in their course and a small section of path was removed completely. A new square area now includes the elevated mineral fountain in the center. Seating steps in the lawn slope invite to rest. New multifunctional playing fields in the area of already used sports fields are connected by narrow water-bound paths. The four fields include a calisthenics facility (fitness), a small playing field for soccer and basketball, a streetball court, and a small area with a lower children's basketball hoop. The central open park area remains untouched and has not been altered.
