Campus Kreuztal

In August 2018, the town of Kreuztal held an ideas workshop to redesign an existing park-like area surrounded by schools and sports halls in the north of Kreuztal town center. As a result, the planning team wbp Landschaftsarchitekten was commissioned to transform the extensive area into an attractive center of the school and sports center.



On the basis of extensive participation processes, the planners developed a concept that met the needs of citizens of all ages as well as the requirements formulated by the city of Kreuztal for ecological enhancement, sustainability and multifunctionality.



As a result, an attractive, largely barrier-free main path network was created in addition to a versatile arena designed with grass steps, which offers clear orientation and access to all important neighboring locations. The existing leisure facilities, such as the skate bike park and the small playing field, were upgraded and expanded in close consultation with the young users and supplemented with a play slope and a calisthenics facility.



Together with the possible uses of the "Arena", the area, which was previously perceived more as a transit area, has become a lively center of the educational and sports campus.
