Appreciation in the special award for living environmentGerman Landscape Architecture Award 2011

Jury verdict: 3,000 people live in the large housing estate, which was built in the 1970s according to the guiding principle of "urbanity through density". An above-average number of residents have a migration background, and one in three is under 18 years of age. The design of the residential environment turned out to be a social challenge for the housing association and the commissioned planners, which was tackled in close partnership with the municipality's neighbourhood management, schools and many local initiatives.

The result was a diverse open space landscape that accommodates a wide variety of needs and makes an important contribution to social cohesion. Socially Integrative City and open space planning have entered into a successful synthesis here.
