The 23 hectare open spaces of the new clinic building include a 1.2 hectare pond with promenade, footpaths, roads, parking spaces, extensively greened roof areas and several inner courtyards. These inner courtyards refer to the functions located in the building: Therapy Garden, Parent-Child Courtyard, Terrace Courtyard with catering, Chapel Courtyard and Art Courtyard. On the south side of the building a water surface mediates between architecture and landscape and establishes the connection from the designed area in the transition to the Wiehengebirge. An "arboretum medicum" invites visitors to learn about the medical significance of the planted trees, shrubs and perennials.
