In the case of Quartier Wupperbogen, cooperation with the landscape architect during the development plan process enabled an inner-city area to be made more compact and yet still 'green'. The building blocks of near-natural rainwater management through green roofs and infiltration as well as greening by means of trees and woody plants/hedges were applied.

A residential area for approx. 100 units has been created in Leichlingen on an area of approx. 19,700 m2. The aspect of near-natural rainwater management was included in the development planning.
Through appropriate specialist planning, it was possible to achieve that all rainwater is returned to the natural cycle in the area by means of extensive and intensive roof greening and infiltration of the residual water via troughs or infiltration trenches. At the time, the area was also the first to be calculated with flood protection.
The system passed its acid test in the summer of 2017, when parts of the city centre 'flooded' during a heavy rain event - but no problems occurred in the Wupperbogen neighbourhood.
And then, remarkably, the absence of damage during the flooding of Leichlingen on 10.Directly adjacent to the Wupperbogen, a village, a school and a food market sank into the mud - nothing happened in the construction area.
In addition to its relevance for stormwater management, green roofs naturally improve the microclimate through dust binding, evaporation and oxygen production. Further building blocks in the quarter to these points are the street trees, house trees with the multi-family dwellings, hedge plantings with native woods at property borders and wild woods in the greening strip.
Different ways were also gone with the play offers. Instead of an area in the farthest corner (as in the old development plan), there is now a play path that connects the main road running to the side of the neighborhood with the so-called Wupperbegleitweg.
