The Neckarlauer is a riverside area located in front of the old town for loading and unloading ships. However, the main focus is on the tourist use. Access is via a road/ramp or via four existing stairs.

The path, currently made of natural stone paving, and the stairs were in desolate condition. The aim of the design is the barrier-free development and an upgrading of the waiting area and the creation of amenity qualities for visitors. The historic natural stone paving was taken up and stored. A barrier-free path made of Neckar Valley sandstone was created. In the areas of the stairs and entrances, the surfaces were widened to provide waiting areas for wheelchair users. The historic natural stone paving was incorporated into the resulting inlays. Thus, the original character of the Neckarlauer is preserved.

The addition stands out from the existing. The stairs were given steps made of sandstone and handrails made of flat steel. In order to increase the quality of stay, two three-row benches made of sandstone were planned in addition to three single-row seating blocks/seating edges in the central area. Recessed lights are integrated into the seating blocks. The design is based on straight lines and clear lines, takes the existing buildings into account and sets new accents.
