In the west of Dresden, a new primary school with after-school care and sports hall was built with sustainability in mind. The site is located on a slope facing north. The two buildings are accessed at the same level via a common courtyard. In this courtyard are the break areas, which consist of both paved and unpaved surfaces. The paved courtyard between the buildings is a place of arrival, connection and recreation at the same time. Under a light tree canopy all intensive play areas such as climbing landscape and mud area are arranged. A walkable seating wall separates the two materialities and at the same time offers the possibility to sit.
At the transition to the break green spaces, a portion of the rainwater is collected into a streamlet and directed to the open rain retention areas located to the north. These areas create a variety of habitats while also providing a backdrop and research space for students. In the break area there is also a reading garden which, equipped with two blackboards, can also serve as a classroom in the green.
Near the sports hall there is a football pitch and a 50 m running track with integrated long jump facility.
