Liberation Square

Redesign

The narrower area of the square was covered in tableau-like fashion with banded natural stone slabs on an area of 1500
m². On the square are
two memorials of citywide importance: the
"Memorial to the Victims of Fascism" and the "Memorial to the
Soviet Soldiers".

The memorials were placed free and received a "pedestal" filled with small stone paving on
the slab surface.
Corten steel buckets in different lengths/heights mark
the places where benches are located. A distinct soundscape from
traffic noise is created by plantings of
robust and drought-resistant grasses and perennials, supplemented in
spring by spring geophytes. Their staggered heights screen the space from the eagle frame. Above
there is an "umbrella" of light, narrow-crowned and in autumn
brilliant yellow coloured gleditschias, which are "freely" distributed over the square
.
