The northern and southern parts of the future Krupp Park cover 220,000 m². As a first measure, an inner city park was created on 125,000 m² in the northern part. It closes a gap that includes and connects the new Krupp Boulevard and the ThyssenKrupp headquarters. This area was not open to the public for almost 200 years and formed a break between Altendorf and the city center. In order to turn the area, which was still located in a deep depression in 2008 and was almost imperceptible, into a park, it was initially modelled into a hilly park with earth movements amounting to around 400,000 m³.

In the design developed by LAND (formerly KLA kiparlandschaftsarchitekten), a wide "high valley" runs in a north-south direction through the park landscape, accompanied by five offset, flat hills. The main attraction, a 9,000m² lake, is located as a "prelude" at the northern end of the park, directly at the park entrances located there and the supra-regional bicycle path on the route of the "Rheinische Bahn". This gives the park a superordinate connection to the Ruhr area, serving the tourist interests of a Ruhr metropolis. Today, the park is a versatile open space that can be experienced and accessed by all population and user groups.
