With a size of approx. 200 ha, of which approx. 56 ha are water areas, and its numerous sports facilities, the Sports Park Wedau is one of the largest and most diverse sports and recreation areas in Germany.

In spring 2004, the City of Duisburg commissioned the office B.S.L. in a consortium with the office BSV Aachen (traffic planning) with the development of a framework planning for the Sports Park Wedau.

The aim of the framework planning was to coordinate and link the variety of offers of the sports park in terms of content, function and design to a holistic concept and to optimize future planning projects.

With the framework plan Sports Park Wedau potentials for the further development of the sports park with regard to its future viability as an internationally recognized sports facility are shown, which at the same time have a sustainable impact on the entire city of Duisburg in the sense of a green space networking.

The framework plan for the Sports Park Wedau was updated in 2008. This created a sustainable basis for the further development of WasserWeltWedau.
