Station forecourt Possenhofen New construction of squares, parking and traffic facilities, green areas

The forecourt to the S-Bahn station in Possenhofen, municipality of Pöcking, had to be renewed. The square describes the areas in front of and around the historic station building, which was once a royal waiting hall and is now used as a residential building and above all as the Queen Elisabeth Museum.
In this process, all current uses and requirements for the space were recorded. These are access to the platforms, park & ride areas for cars and bicycles for S-Bahn use, starting point, destination and resting point of the hiking trail network western Starnbergerseeufer, residents' parking, parking for the kiosk and museum visitors (cars+buses) and, last but not least, a representative forecourt for the museum, which is frequented beyond the region. These requirements, which complement each other in parts and contradict each other in others, were ordered in the design and an appropriate, unifying and restrained design was found for this in an extensive process of consideration.

The square is essentially designed with three materials - grey granite, sandstone-coloured concrete block and black asphalt. Concrete stone is used to surround the building with a large stone pavement. This defines the building's surroundings with a surface that is uniform in colour and form and establishes a clear relationship to the building. All other areas are covered with asphalt and articulated with granite. The only furnishing element installed centrally in front of the entrance portal and museum entrance is a knee-high circular platform. It defines the centre of the square and invites visitors to linger. At the same time, it regulates and decelerates traffic and parking.

The pedestal is also used as a base for the Sisi statue. This new landmark of the Queen Elisabeth Museum was ceremoniously unveiled in autumn 2013 and was designed and created especially for this location by the sculptor Jozek Nowak.
