According to the zoning decision, impairments to recreational use in the Kelsterbach Forest caused by the airport expansion are to be compensated. The construction of new play and active elements as a play and fitness route in the Kelsterbach Forest is therefore intended to complement existing facilities and increase the attractiveness of local recreation for all population groups. On the one hand, child-friendly structures that can be played on and experienced will be built. On the other hand, in view of the existing user structures (walkers, cyclists, recreational athletes), there should also be facilities that encourage activities for all ages. In the planning of the playground equipment, DIN 18034 'Playgrounds and open spaces for play - requirements for planning, construction and operation' could only be applied to a very limited extent, as the play elements to be realised were only located at a distance from the residential buildings that could be reached by children to a very limited extent (radius: 350m for 6-12 year olds according to DIN 18034). The selection of the equipment and recreational elements was therefore made with regard to a near-natural and landscape-friendly integration at the planned location, as well as to the spontaneous use by the user group already frequenting the open space of the Kelsterbach Forest. The entry point for the use of the elements was deliberately kept low-threshold. Complex and performance-oriented offers do not meet the needs of older target groups or children. Therefore, self-explanatory, attractive design elements with a high call character were preferably chosen. In addition, use by the older population was to be made possible at the element locations.
