The exciting spatial sequences of the new courtyard development are strengthened by elements of open space planning. A uniform paving surface, differentiated in light-dark contrasts as well as in the joint pattern, flows around the buildings and summarizes the courtyard space in its independence. The paving with narrow split joints is limited to the main paths. In the transition to building edges and in square-like expansions, the surface is partially unsealed and greened through the formation of wide, vegetated joints. The materiality of the courtyard floor also takes into account the accessibility for emergency vehicles. The special feature of the courtyard situation is emphasized by the artificial spatial differentiation between the semi-public and private areas. No hard boundaries are formulated here.
A heterogeneous, green filter with potted plants of different types and sizes creates a more private terrace band around the buildings and shapes both the private and the semi-public open space as an additive element. The small squares accommodate the required small children's play areas close to the apartments. Each courtyard space is given its own characteristic courtyard tree, so that the vertical green volume also contributes to the character of the communal courtyard.
