South of Halle's historic old town, the Holzplatz is located on the site of a former gas works. In addition to the new school building, a gymnasium, a parking lot and a sports and training area for the DLRG were constructed. The old gasometer is being converted into a planetarium.
The areas built to the north of the school serve as traffic access. Among other things, 300 bicycle parking spaces are arranged here. The height difference to the existing street "Holzplatz" up to the main entrance is overcome by stairs, seat walls and steps. The footpath of the street "Holzplatz" is integrated into the square-like area north of the stairs. A "wooden square" assigned to the entrance area serves as a place to stay and, with the integration of rustic wooden elements, creates an identification element for the school and creates a reference to the location of the object.
The eastern area contains the service and fire brigade access road and thus the connection to the street "Holzplatz". The service road is assigned enclosures for service equipment, trash cans and playground equipment.
The school grounds are a fenced-off area that incorporates a 100m running track including a jump pit for school sports. The sliding sand pit cover "Wooden Court 2" serves as a seating area during times outside of school sports. In addition, recreation areas and play islands as well as a "green classroom" are provided. Tree axes and supplementary awnings provide shade for the schoolyard area. A planting structure with integrated wood pile shelving serves the environmental education of the students and compensates for the existing height difference between the school grounds and the powder pastures.
