With the construction of the Gerty Cory House research building, the outdoor facilities were redesigned. In addition to the creation of attractive recreational areas for employees and test subjects, service areas were created and new path connections and traffic areas were created. A beach volleyball court is available for sports activities in summer. An accessibility concept was developed for people with disabilities. Some of the existing car parking spaces have been converted to make them barrier-free. A guidance system for people with visual impairments consisting of tactile and visually detectable guide plates has been installed. All entrances to the building are accessible without thresholds. The paved surfaces have a narrow joint and can be rolled over by people in wheelchairs or using a rollator. Areas for a wheelchair or rollator were created next to the benches. The slope of the path surfaces was reduced to the minimum necessary for drainage in order to make it easier for wheelchair users to roll over. Visually and tactilely detectable surfaces enable orientation for people with visual impairments. In the main access area, a system of guide mats for the blind was installed. The use of naturally rough paving surfaces made of natural stone paving was avoided. Our office developed a drainage concept for the outdoor facilities.
