Tax office centre Aachen

The realisation of the Aachen tax office centre, the largest tax office centre in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, goes back to a competition won in 2004. The differently designed inner courtyards are also intended to improve orientation. Despite all the differences, however, the courtyards are based on a uniform design concept.

All the courtyards are covered with different, water-permeable materials, such as gravel or chippings, which are structured by bands of plants, islands or similar. Thematically, the contrast between hard and soft, or light and dark, was played with, resulting in different atmospheres. Due to the visibility of the courtyards from the surrounding offices, these are not designed as recreational areas, the visual perception is in the foreground.

In the planning, special emphasis was placed on durable materials as well as high ease of maintenance.

For this project, we received in 2006 by the Association of German Landscape Architects NW an appreciation, it was in May 2008 as "Garden of the Month" on the homepage of the BDLA chosen, finally, it was included in the Internet guide "Baukunst NRW".
