The realization of the Aachen tax office center, the largest tax office center in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, goes back to a competition win in 2004. The differently designed inner courtyards are also intended to improve orientation. Despite all the differences, however, the courtyards are based on a uniform design concept.

All courtyards are covered with different, water-permeable materials, such as gravel, chippings, which are structured by plant strips, islands or similar. Thematically, the contrast between hard and soft or light and dark was played with, resulting in different atmospheres. Due to the fact that the courtyards are visible from the surrounding offices, they are not designed as areas to spend time in; the focus is on visual perception.

During planning, particular emphasis was placed on durable materials and ease of maintenance.

We received an award for this project from the Association of German Landscape Architects NW in 2006, it was named "Garden of the Month" on the BDLA homepage in May 2008, and finally it was included in the "Baukunst NRW" internet guide.
