DUISBURG - Look 'times RHEIN!
Under this motto the development of a feasibility study for a whole Duisburg passing state garden show took place.

If you ask someone to name Rhine cities in NRW, Duisburg usually finds no spontaneous mention. Only after longer thinking one comes on detours over the largest inland port of the world on it. And doesn't the Ruhr also flow into the Rhine in Duisburg?

In fact, the Rhine flows through Duisburg in a south-north direction over a length of 37.5 km. But only in the Ruhrort district do the river and the city meet directly. Duisburg's actual city centre lies several kilometres away from the Rhine. This is due to the fact that the Rhine shifted its bed to the west around the year 1000. The former port city of Duisburg became a farming town.

To choose the largest and most important river in Germany as the setting and landscape backdrop for a garden show is certainly unusual. Especially since the body of water itself plays a significant role in the concept. For the city of Duisburg, however, this is the logical continuation of an urban planning strategy according to which the enormous potential that the Rhine offers for the city is to be developed even further.
