Acute occupancy shortage was the trigger for the municipality of Eberhardzell to tackle the renovation and expansion of the cemetery, which had been pending for years. The existing area as well as the adjacent extension area were over-planned and adapted to the lively demand for urn burial fields and urn walls. In the course of this, it was possible to ensure accessibility, minimise the cost of care and maintenance and at the same time significantly increase the attractiveness for mourners and visitors; dark coniferous hedges had to give way to colourful herbaceous beds interspersed with grasses and shrubs, so that the cemetery has now become a magnet for local recreation seekers.
