New primary school with day nursery and sports hall, Unterbiberg New construction of the break areas, outdoor facilities, sports facilities and design of the retention areas in the floodplain of the stream

The main challenge in the development of the new school site on the western edge of Unterbiberg was the optimal siting of the building and open spaces between commercial areas, the motorway feeder road and the natural area of the Hachinger Bach in the immediate vicinity.

The decision for an elongated building structure aligned parallel to the stream gave the classrooms a direct view and the break areas a direct reference to the natural area. A flowing transition from the school area to the creek-accompanying landscape area was made possible - without enclosures and structural barriers. Thus the flood meadows and meadow embankments become experiencable components of the school operation.

The different use areas of the loosely tree-covered break and Hortflächen are divided by hornbeam hedges. Play areas with climbing nets, seating groups and retreat areas with stone cubes and concrete loungers and an after-school garden with a wide range of games have been created. More noise-insensitive uses, such as sports areas and car access, are located on the west side of the building.
