The green corridor Hölkeskampring was developed as a park with barrier-free offers for all user groups. The largest green space in the city centre of Herne was renewed and made more attractive through suitable and differentiated offers, which should create a lively park for all.
The high frequency of use since the opening on 15 June 2015 and the positive feedback from various user groups confirms that this goal has been achieved.

The green corridor "Hölkeskampring" is located at the south-eastern edge of the urban redevelopment area "Herne-Mitte" and is part of the development concept.
The aim of the redesign was to create accessible offers for all age groups within walking distance for the adjacent neighbourhoods. The focus here was on reducing the deficits in play areas and exercise facilities, especially for older people. In addition, it was important to significantly increase the quality of stay by providing appropriate furniture and attractive shrub plantings.
At the same time, it was a major concern to make the green corridor more interesting in all its sub-areas. As far as possible, the individual functional areas were to have a visual relationship with the neighbouring areas.
In support of this, new pathways were created in part to optimise the connections to the outside and between the functional areas. The park was also made brighter, friendlier and more visible through the targeted removal of very dense and sometimes problematic trees.
All the redesigns carried out were based on participatory processes. In addition to the classic citizen participation, there were separate participations of children and young people, which took place under the moderation of the children's representative.
