In future, all air traffic in Berlin is to be handled by the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) at the current Schönefeld site. Tegel Airport will therefore be closed in the foreseeable future. The airport site will become an urban development area with enormous urban development, industrial and landscape potential for the entire city. The "Urban Tech Republic" (UTR) concept was developed for this important urban space: In this industrial and research park for urban technologies, an internationally unique place for innovation is to be created. The Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment held an open space planning competition to create lively districts with open spaces that unite the various uses and functions in a shared campus and include spaces with different atmospheres. The aim of the competition was to develop a comprehensive concept for the entire public space of the campus. Gruppe F supported the administration in coordinating the process, determining the basic principles and drawing up the competition brief, as well as supervising the participants, the preliminary examination and the jury.
