Primary school on Forellenstraße, Munich Trudering New construction of outdoor facilities and sports areas

As part of the renovation and extension of the primary school on Forellenstraße in Munich Trudering, we were able to develop the existing outdoor facilities, which were getting on in years, into a contemporary school outdoor facility.
90-year-old deciduous trees structured the existing outdoor spaces. We carefully developed these spaces to incorporate new uses, adapting them to the added building constellations.

One theme of the design was the incorporation of traffic practice into the recess yard. A standard traffic exercise area could not be implemented due to the position of the existing trees. In close consultation with the users and the police, we planned a traffic course into the new recess and play areas so that it would fit naturally between the grassy mound, play equipment and paved recess areas. For the integrated after-school play area, we developed a gravel dry valley as an informal play offer without playground equipment.

We planned with the users, planners, authorities and building owners and accompanied the construction measures during ongoing school operations over a total period of six years. In the course of three construction phases, modern, high-quality open-air school areas were created with a varied playscape, a new playground, a variety of recreation and retreat areas, outdoor classrooms, an after-school garden and new sports areas.
