As early as 2001-2002, Marion Brod-Kilian planned the redesign of two adjacent fallow areas in the Gründerzeit district of Dresden into a playground with adjacent green space. As of 2017, the redevelopment of the facility, which had already been in use for 15 years, was also planned by our office and the execution was accompanied.
A protected play area for small and primary school children was already created in 2002, which is connected with differentiated recreation areas for the accompanying parents, young people from the technical school opposite and residents of all ages.
Prior to the planned redevelopment, a playground workshop was held by the Dresdner Projektschmiede, in which the acceptance and wishes of the users were researched.
The result was that the playground is still very popular, that - in addition to the replacement of some worn-out play equipment and fall protection areas, a shift in focus from toddlers towards 5-10 year olds had to be taken into account.
Elements of the previous playground are a sand play area with a toddler climbing combination with a slide and a playhouse, in addition to meadow and planting areas with a planted pavilion. The ensemble is completed with a seating platform and a petanque playing area, "playrooms" with walls of hedges and traditional children's games. In addition, there are round benches, a climbing carousel, a double swing and seesaw animals.
In the redesign, an "playroom" for older children and teenagers was equipped with an outdoor foosball table (which will be retrofitted shortly) and a climbing wall was planned on the adjacent façade, although this was initially put on hold for financial reasons.
The climbing and play combination for the very young found a place in the meadow area - adjacent to a sand play area with seating stones for parents as well as the relocated spring bouncers from the central play area.
This in turn created space for a generous sand area for primary school children and a climbing and balancing range that ends at a height that allows the facility to be overlooked.
Many of the tried and tested play equipment was merely refurbished or replaced by more advanced successor equipment.
