Environmental construction supervision serves to ensure that environmental requirements are taken into account. The environmental construction supervision does not replace the construction management for ecological measures such as planting, species protection measures or drainage, but it accompanies the entire realization process and ensures that not only the intended work is realized, but also that the environmental requirements specified in the planning are observed.

In the environmental construction supervision for the development of the "Großer Forst" industrial estate, compliance with the following requirements had to be ensured:
- Protection periods for protected animal species
- Protection of woody plants to be preserved
- Protection of areas with high-quality biotopes
- Careful handling of excavated soil
- Use of native woody plants
- Use of insect-friendly lighting
- Handling of substances hazardous to water and soil

Since the conditions affect the construction process, the construction work and the costs, the environmental construction supervision should be commissioned as early as possible in the implementation planning stage. Then it can check the consideration of the conditions in the planning, in the tender and in the selected offers. At the beginning of the construction project, the environmental construction supervisor explains to the employees of the companies involved the nature and purpose of the environmental requirements to be observed. During construction, the environmental construction supervisor checks compliance with these regulations, in particular by carrying out inspections at the construction site. In the event of violations, it only issues direct instructions in exceptional cases where there is imminent danger. In principle, it reports to a representative of the client, who is to ensure that the requirements are observed.

If necessary, the environmental construction supervision can also participate in the modification of environmental requirements. By commissioning environmental construction supervision, the offices and companies involved in construction are provided with a competent person with whom environmental tasks can also be solved that did not yet arise in the approval planning phase.
