The project resulted from a landscape architectural realization competition, from which the team Lavaland and Treibhaus with the authors Laura Vahl, Deniz Dizici and Gerko Schröder emerged as winners in April 2011.

The planning task in the competition included the design of four neighborhood open spaces as parks and promenades around a groundwater-fed lake as the "heart" of a newly emerging urban quarter on a former airfield.

These open spaces for approx. 20,000 inhabitants with approx. 20,000 jobs were to be realized parallel to the realization of the building construction projects.

In April 2012, Lavaland GmbH in cooperation with Treibhaus was commissioned as general planner for the realization planning of the 1st construction phase. In addition to the design of the park with its shoreline, the southern promenade section, the design of a total of approximately 10,000m2 play area with individual play equipment and the planning of an approximately 65m long bridge over a bay of the lake was the subject of the commission.

In addition to the MA42 (Vienna Gardens), the MA45 (Department of Viennese Waters) and the Wiener Linien (Public Transport), the coordination with a number of other departments was project organizational and communicative challenge.

Since May 2015, the lake park as part of the first construction phase is realized and handed over to the public. Since October 2017, the Lavaland office in cooperation with Treibhaus has been commissioned and busy with the planning of the northern promenade as the 2nd construction phase. Here the release of the draft planning for the project with approx. 6.4 ha and a construction volume of approx. 10.4 million € took place. The realisation of the first section is about to be commissioned.
