OUTLETCITY
HOLY AG is expanding the Outletcity in the area of the former Gänslen and Völter company site, bounded by the Erms and the Erms Canal in the east, Reutlinger Strasse in the south, Christian-Völter-Strasse in the west and extending as far as Stuttgarter Strasse in the north.

After determining the urban reconfiguration of the area and a competition for the design of the façades, an open space planning competition was held. The winning design by Bruun & Möllers GmbH & Co KG was recommended for further commissioning.

DESIGN OF OPEN SPACES
The design of Reutlinger Straße supports the idea of a conflict-free and considerate encounter between pedestrians, cyclists and private vehicles. The roadway is bordered with light-coloured, wide granite curbs with a tread of 3 cm for clear legibility. The road surface itself is embossed using the Bitu-Print process, creating the impression of a seamless transition from pavement to asphalt.

In the area of the shopping arcades, the open space design responds to the architectural motif of the arcades by reinterpreting a classic alley motif. The anthracite-coloured concrete stone of the Outletcity guides and accompanies guests through the new quarter. In front of the arcades, a light-coloured band of natural stone delimits the alley. The area under the arcades is paved with sawn natural stone paving, which creates a high-quality and lively structure.

Hugo Boss Platz represents the heart of the new quarter as a meeting place, town square and stage. The buildings stand on the paving borders as if on plinths on the square, and the typical concrete stone of the Outletcity can also be found again. A paving inlay that reacts to the existing grid shows a centre and covers the square like a carpet. Individual plane trees flank the square in a loose position. Round benches made of steel with wooden supports inviting to take a break are placed around individual trees. A water basin north of the entrance to the underground car park is a highlight of the square.
