Children need space to grow, play and discover - which is exactly what the well thought-out open space design of the new Lütte Lüüd daycare center in Barmstedt offers. Here, we have created a place that inspires the imagination and enriches the everyday lives of the little ones. The focus was on the needs of the young users: functional elements such as paths and storage areas blend harmoniously into the lovingly designed overall picture.



Discovering the world through play - encouraging movement and creativity



The majority of the extensive outdoor area is designed as a play and recreation area for crèche and elementary children in order to do justice to the importance of exercise in the fresh air. Here, traditional play equipment such as swings and sandboxes alternate with unique play and exercise zones. There is something for every child to discover: Adventurous climbing landscapes made of logs in which a ship rocks on the high seas, water games for hot summer days, a hedge maze for romping and hiding and a willow igloo that offers a quiet retreat. Curved paths made of small-format concrete paving invite children to go exploring on scooters and bobby cars, while a spacious lawn area serves both for free play and as an emergency assembly point.



Experiencing nature from an early age - a concept close to nature



With native fruit trees such as apple, cherry and plum, which will provide shade and structure the open spaces in the future, an awareness of nature is conveyed in a playful way. Wild fruit bushes such as hazelnuts, blueberries and rock pears invite children to snack on them and thus promote a direct connection to nature. There are raised beds near the kitchen where the little ones can grow and harvest their own vegetables - an experience that deepens their understanding of nature.
