Garden monument preservation redesign of public areas

The Hufeisensiedlung was realized by Bruno Taut, Martin Wagner and the garden architect Leberecht Migge in the 1920s. The hallmark of the garden city was the harmonious interplay of urban planning, architecture and open space. In 2008, the settlement was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites as an outstanding example of Berlin Modernism.

According to the motto "Living in and with the monument", we have renovated and redesigned the previously unattractive public green spaces in a manner befitting a listed building. In addition to the significance of the World Heritage Site and the associated monument protection, contemporary requirements for the use and maintenance of the green spaces also had to be taken into account during the renovation. Modern technology now regulates the water level of the central pond, while a perimeter band of shrubs accentuates its special shape. Following the historical model, the central forecourt on Fritz-Reuter-Allee was given new tree plantings and open spaces. A large flight of steps again provides the connection between the forecourt and the pond.
