In the former industrial area between Wilhelminenhofstrasse and the Spree, typical and recurring open spaces can be identified: two-sided corridors, three-sided squares and irregular, mostly triangular expanses along the banks of the Spree.
Based on this open space typology, a structure of open spaces is proposed for the development area, which are assigned to the respective dominant spatial elements and support their spatial effect. The areas are set in relation to each other via offsets and steps.
This turns the connection between Wilhelminenhofstraße and the banks of the Spree into a spatial sequence: from the Kranbahnpromenade, along the perimeter of the Schauhallen, via the city square and riverside promenade to the Kaisersteg.
