The "Schaufenster Fischereihafen" was set up in the 1990s in the historic part of Bremerhaven's fishing port - originally to provide an insight into the fishing industry. Over time, the area has developed into a popular destination for locals and tourists, with a wide range of entertainment, gastronomy, culture, sporting activities and overnight accommodation, while fish processing, fish trading, shipbuilding and marine research continue to be carried out in the surrounding harbor district. Fishing and seafaring are also dominant themes in the "Schaufenster Fischereihafen", as fish restaurants and harbor pubs, museum ship and sea fish cooking studio show.

In 2006-2008, the central square in front of Packhalle IV was redesigned under the direction of POLA. Instead of creating something completely new, existing features were accentuated. On the quay of Fischereihafen I, where fishing vessels used to land their catches, an expansive wooden deck was created, inviting visitors to linger and admire the ships in the harbor. On the square of historic cobblestones, in the immediate vicinity of the outdoor restaurant, a disused water fountain has been transformed into a field of fog, which attracts children in particular to play with the water and fog in the warmer months of the year.

The selective transformation of this area has created an auditorium from which visitors can enjoy the fishing port in its authentic mixture of unpretentious commercial area with experience gastronomy and harbor festivals.
