Redesign of the main square Landsberg a. Lech

The main square of Landsberg presents itself as an attractive and inviting city centre for all population and age groups. With its triangular ground plan, distinctive topography and art-historically valuable framing buildings, it is historically and urbanistically a remarkable ensemble. Traffic originating from the 70s with a DTV of approx. 17000 shaped the appearance of the square. The routing of the former federal road took up a lot of space, parking spaces generated parking search traffic, pedestrians squeezed along narrow sidewalks and stopping possibilities were limited to the central "traffic island" around the historic fountain. In 2010, a VOF procedure with integrated competition was carried out, from which the office lohrer.hochrein landschaftsarchitekten und stadtplaner gmbh, emerged as the winner after a public consultation. The wish for an inviting link between the two most important inner-city pedestrian areas was thus fulfilled. The main square will be the focus of attention as a generous link between the pedestrian zone and the banks of the Lech. A referendum held during the design phase confirmed that the intensively further developed design was well received by the citizens of Landsberg.
