With the memorial, a place has been created where the surviving dependents of those buried at sea have the opportunity to visit a place of mourning. Wooden steles, which originally stood in the North Sea, bear the nameplates of the deceased. The site is divided into two staging areas and is framed by a planting of white flowering tall shrubs and bushes, as well as grasses and red flowering roses.
A pergola serves to vertically structure the facility.
