With the construction of the new Willingshausen elementary school, the municipality intends to consolidate the school locations previously scattered across the districts into a new, modern, 2-stream school building. The site of the new school is located on the outskirts of the village on a hillside plot integrated into the landscape.

Similar to the building with its triangular shape and the split level in the basement, which responds to the topographical conditions, the spatial program of the open space with its functional requirements also adapts to the situation and embeds itself in the existing landscape. Analogous to the three sides of the building, the open space is divided into three areas. The entrance is deliberately designed to be open and inviting as a meeting area. There is no fencing here; only a row of small-crowned fruit trees emphasizes the street layout. The southern schoolyard is divided into three level terraces that are stepped. The height difference to the street is conveyed by a gabion wall.

The upper terrace forms the large, paved schoolyard as an exercise area with an integrated running track and various play and recreational facilities. On the middle level is the playground with facilities for ball games and on the lower terrace there is a gravel pool with various play equipment. The

The embankment areas in between are incorporated into the play program with climbing and sliding opportunities and at the same time reflect the surrounding landscape with interspersed fruit trees. To the north of the building, a border of native trees and shrubs creates a transition to the landscape and at the same time a filter to the adjacent farmland. Here the pupils will find places to retreat and opportunities to play hide-and-seek.
