The search for the unmistakable identity of the site is expressed in the implementation of the design concept in a consistent formal expression of the individual design layers and functional areas.

Parts of the park, such as the garden or play flux, are naturally integrated into the design style of the overall concept. Urbanistic path relationships are transferred into park-wide surface textures, such as the frame. The dynamic appearance of the park is characterized by "flowing" partial areas that add up to a holistic appearance.
The basic theme of the design - the interpretation of the site as a condensation of the most diverse movements, flows and relationships to the inner city is expressed in the transformation of the typical "wild" ruderal vegetation that accompanies the railway into a grid planting with an inner-city character. From the west, the initially loosely interspersed individual trees, which follow a basic grid, condense into a dense grove of trees on the eastern city square.
Disturbances and irritations are created in the predominantly flat urban structure by nuanced topographical elevations of the lawns.

Light and transparency - the design-aesthetic objective of Arnulfpark is a bright park flooded with light. This is expressed in the materiality of the floor coverings, fixtures and in the choice of tree species. Eggshell-coloured and light beige asphalt and fall protection surfaces in combination with white cement concrete fixtures on light-coloured chippings underline this character. Beyond the light habitus and spring bloom, the selected tree species define the park with their bright yellow leaf coloration in the fall.

Minutes of the jury meeting on Jan. 29, 2004
" ... despite the rectangular flatness, the authors manage to give the design a dynamism, with the large promenade moving from northeast to southwest in a short powerful diagonal. The large-scale terrain modelling supports the dynamic feel of the design and is of a subtle sculptural quality. All the surfaces, the promenade, the meadow and play areas are correctly sized and offer a high quality of use."
