The search for the unmistakable identity of the location is expressed in the implementation of the design concept in a consistent formal expression of the individual design layers and functional areas.

Sub-areas of the park, such as the garden or play flux, are naturally integrated into the design style of the overall concept. Urban pathways are transformed into park-wide surface textures, such as the frame. The dynamic appearance of the park is characterized by "flowing" partial areas that add up to a holistic appearance.

The basic theme of the design - the interpretation of the site as a consolidation of various movements, flows and relationships towards the city center - is expressed in the transformation of the typical "wild" ruderal vegetation accompanying the railroad into a grid planting with an inner-city character. From the west, the initially loosely scattered individual trees following a basic grid become denser, forming a dense grove of trees on the eastern town square.

Disturbances and irritations are created in the predominantly flat urban structure by nuanced topographical elevations of the lawns.

Light and transparency - the design and aesthetic objective of Arnulfpark is a bright, light-flooded park. This is expressed in the materiality of the floor coverings, fixtures and in the choice of tree species. Eggshell-colored and light beige asphalt and fall protection surfaces in combination with fixtures made of white cement concrete on light gravel surfaces underline this character. In addition to their light habitus and spring blossom, the selected tree species define the park with their bright yellow leaf coloration in autumn.

Minutes of the jury meeting on 29.1.2004

" ... Despite the rectangular planarity, the authors have managed to give the design a dynamic quality, with the large promenade moving in a short, strong diagonal from north-east to south-west. The large-scale terrain modeling supports the dynamic impression of the design and has a subtle sculptural quality. All areas, the promenade, the meadow and play areas are correctly dimensioned and offer a high quality of use."
