The playground in Bahnhofstraße, which was renovated in 2009, represents a mosaic stone for the structural and social development of the border town of Hornbach. Through numerous cross-references to the history of the place, the facility was carefully integrated into the architectural context.

The children's playground is located directly on the heavily frequented European Mill Cycle Route and is particularly interesting for the target group 'young families'. It is designed for children of different ages. The wide range of play facilities includes a tower with a giant slide, various sand play areas, a ropeway, a wooden roof and a range of different play equipment. In order to integrate the newly designed playground as sensitively as possible into the local landscape, materials typical of the area, such as red sandstone and wood, were deliberately used. The design concept also provided for the special features of the monastery town to be incorporated into the playground renovation, resulting in a tailor-made solution especially for Hornbach, e.g. the play tower made of quarry stones, which is in direct visual contact with the monastery church and is oriented towards the historical building fabric. Brick round arches and a tunnel vault are also reminiscent of the originals in detail. The tower quadrangle also refers to the local history. It measures exactly 3 times 3 'Hornbacher Ellen', a measure of length from the Middle Ages. The newly designed partial area of the playground is about 1.600m². In order to keep the costs as low as possible, the planning included the reuse of existing components, e.g. the well-preserved stainless steel slide, which was slightly shortened and its curve changed. The materials were chosen not only for design reasons but also for their durability and insensitivity. Furthermore, safety and ecological aspects were in the foreground. The planning was further developed and refined on the basis of a preliminary draft by the VG Zweibrücken-Land.
