The design of the outdoor area of the daycare center is conceptually based on a modeled topography that creates spaces for free play areas. In the overall open layout, the choice of play equipment defines areas for different age groups.
Through the use of natural materials and the use of natural play facilities such as sandstone blocks for climbing, a water and mud facility in the sand or tunnels and teepees made of willow, the children's imagination, perception and motor skills are encouraged. A few pieces of playground equipment, such as a bird's nest swing for the smallest ones, extend the range of games on offer. A generous sun sail provides shade in the first years, in the long term numerous shade trees take over the protection from the sun.
In the selection of plants, special emphasis was placed on expanding the plant-geographical woody plant collection of the University of Göttingen, with the area of the daycare center representing the Japanese region. The highlight here is a Japanese wing nut tree, which invites climbing with its spreading branches. The special shape of the building, which seems to grow out of the ground, also gives the opportunity to establish an autochthonous meadow plant community on its roof surface. Fruit trees and berry bushes continue the nature-oriented concept.
