Opposite the town hall with the surrounding market rises the cathedral, with the Domfreiheit, today's Domplatz. This square becomes a space open to different uses. The terrain is a relic of the historic moat, which was previously only overcome by paths with stairs and footbridges.
The design is based on the grown properties. South of the cathedral, the historically developed plots are revived. The areas that were also previously undeveloped become open spaces related to the building and complement the offerings of the Kulturfabrik with the "Theater Garden, Sculpture Garden and Concert Garden" with new uses.
is suitable for all forms of cultural events. The design develops spaces of different atmosphere from the historic plots. The festive setting is provided by the square area in front of the cathedral and the valuable tree population at the historic cathedral school and the culture factory. Paths, footbridges and stairs open up the reclaimed area of the moat.

In 2008, an expert procedure was won for the interim design of an area adjacent to the north of the cathedral, the "Bananenkeller" and the Paradeplatz:

Idea
The idea of the redesign is derived from the urban figure of the historical site plan of 1725. Here, various school buildings are located on the overplanned land in the former buildings of the cathedral administration.
The design picks up both the monastic garden tradition, a walled orchard, as well as on the tradition of the Prussian school system. In addition to reading, writing and arithmetic, the basics of fruit and vegetable growing were taught in his time.
The city councillors have decided to completely demolish the remaining structural remnants of the brewery buildings that existed until the 2nd World War, as intensive efforts to find a suitable use for the 19x66m basement building have been unsuccessful over the past 20 years. In terms of urban development, a small-scale redevelopment oriented towards Paradeplatz is envisaged at this location. The remaining useful life of 15-25 years of the apartment buildings to the east of the Paradeplatz provides the expected time frame. For this time horizon, we have developed a qualifying interim use that is appropriate for the listed area of the cathedral.
