In 2010-2012, the former fencing hall of the old Royal Riding Academy from 1895 was converted into apartments and a ground-level parking deck, and the officers' mess was converted into offices, practices and apartments. Modern townhouses with gardens were built in the middle of the listed quarter.
The outdoor space concept combines the modern new building with the historic buildings into one unit. Protected by a gabion wall, a generous perennial garden with a seating area was created under the large old oak tree, which was preserved through careful tree care measures. Beech hedges and ivy walls screen the private terraces. Pillar cherries and a bluebell tree add colour to the Carrée in spring.
