Before the project was implemented, the Stadtwehr in Nürtingen was a 3.20 m high transverse structure in the Neckar that was insurmountable for all native aquatic organisms. In addition to the creation of river ecological continuity through the construction of a bypass channel, the aim of the project is to upgrade the open spaces in a central location for recreational use.
