Prior to the redesign, the Altdorfer Würm had been straightened along the entire approx. 500 m long planning section and its bed and banks had been partially engineered, resulting in significant structural deficits. The objectives of the redesign were to significantly improve the structure of the watercourse, to restore the stream's curved course with small and large loops in line with historical references, to restore the watercourse continuity, which was restricted by riverbed falls, and to improve the experience of the watercourse. Thanks to the municipality's foresighted planning, a lot of space was available for this in sections, so that self-development can also be permitted to a certain extent. However, in the first section, flanked by buildings on both sides, the scope for design was limited. Here too, however, it was possible to create a differentiated watercourse profile with medium and low water beds and to bring about a significant improvement through the installation of deadwood structures and living bioengineering methods. The conversion of two pipe inlets in the planning section also significantly reduced the hydraulic stress on the watercourse during heavy rainfall.

Following the redesign, the watercourse can now be easily experienced from the adjacent leisure areas thanks to informal access with seating and stepping stones in the embankment.

The implementation was possible because the municipality received funding from the state of Baden-Württemberg in accordance with the water management funding guidelines.
